The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, for the first time in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry and supported by the Government of the NCT of Delhi, is once again organizing the 5th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, scheduled for 7- 7–9, 2007 at New Delhi.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs’ yearly signature event, aims to unite more than 25 million overseas Indians and bring the skills and knowledge of the Indian diaspora to India so that they can contribute to and integrate into that country’s growth process. The PBD 2007 will give everyone the chance to network and forge lasting and fruitful relationships. Over 1500 Indians living abroad typically attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas!
The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2007 will be officially launched on November 7 by Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has agreed to attend the valedictory session as the chief guest and present the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards. The UPA Chair, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, will speak at the special plenary session on “Developmental Challenges of the States: Partnership Opportunities” on the second day, the eighth. The PBD will also feature speeches from all important ministers from the Indian government, providing another opportunity for Indians living abroad to network and engage with Indian policymakers.
The program’s institutional partner, CII, established an international committee under the direction of Mr. Sam Pitroda, Chairman, of the Knowledge Commission, to offer suggestions and guidance on the program’s content and design.
