Languages in Singapore

Singapore has four official languages:

English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.

English: English is the language of administration, business, and education in Singapore. It is widely spoken and used in all aspects of daily life.

Malay: Malay is the national language of Singapore and is used in the country’s national anthem and pledge. It is also one of the official languages of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

Mandarin: Mandarin is the most commonly spoken Chinese language in Singapore, and it is used in schools, government, and business settings. Other Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Cantonese, and Teochew are also spoken by the Chinese community.

Tamil: Tamil is the official language of the Indian community in Singapore, and it is used in education, media, and cultural activities. Other Indian languages such as Hindi and Punjabi are also spoken by the Indian community.

In addition to these four official languages, Singapore is a multicultural and multilingual society, and many other languages are spoken and understood by its residents, including various Chinese dialects, Bahasa Indonesia, and other Indian languages such as Bengali and Telugu.
