Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)

Tree Pose, or Vrikshasana, is a balancing pose in yoga that promotes stability, focus, and connection to the earth. Here’s how to practice Tree Pose:

  1. Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms by your sides.
  2. Shift your weight onto your left foot and find your balance. Keep your left foot firmly rooted into the ground.
  3. Bend your right knee and bring the sole of your right foot to rest against your left inner thigh. If you’re not able to reach your thigh, you can place your foot on your left calf or ankle. Avoid placing your foot directly on your knee joint.
  4. Once your foot is positioned, find a steady focal point in front of you. This will help with your balance and concentration.
  5. Press your right foot against your left thigh, and at the same time, gently press your thigh against your foot. This creates a sense of stability and engagement in the pose.
  6. Bring your hands together at your heart center in a prayer position (Anjali Mudra), or you can extend your arms overhead, reaching towards the sky.
  7. Keep your spine tall and lengthened. Engage your core muscles to help maintain balance.
  8. Take slow, deep breaths as you hold the pose, finding a sense of grounding and stability.
  9. Repeat the same steps on the opposite side, shifting your weight to your right foot and placing your left foot on your right inner thigh.
