Description
Onam is a significant annual festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala. It is a harvest festival and is also known as the state festival of Kerala. The festival is marked by various cultural activities, including boat races, traditional dance performances like Kathakali, music, floral decorations, and feasting. One of the highlights of Onam is the elaborate feast known as Onam Sadhya, which is served on banana leaves and includes a variety of vegetarian dishes.
Onam is associated with the mythical King Mahabali, who is believed to visit Kerala during the festival to ensure the welfare and prosperity of his people. The festival is characterized by colorful decorations, particularly floral arrangements called Pookalam, which are intricate designs made with flowers laid on the floor.
