Usha Chilukuri Vance, born to Indian parents from Andhra Pradesh who moved to the US in 1986, grew up in a San Diego suburb. At midnight during Donald Trump’s victory speech at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida, Trump praised JD Vance and his wife, Usha, for their achievements. Trump, who defeated Kamala Harris by 53 electoral votes, congratulated JD Vance, calling him the “Vice President-elect,” and recognized Usha as “remarkable and beautiful.”

Usha earned a History degree from Yale University and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge as a Gates Scholar. She also held editorial positions at Yale’s Journal of Law & Technology and the Yale Law Journal. Usha met JD at Yale Law School, and they married in 2014, blending a traditional Hindu ceremony with their wedding. Together, they have three children. Usha played a key role in JD’s political career, supporting him throughout his Ohio Senate campaign and contributing to his memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which was adapted into a film.

Currently a corporate litigator in San Francisco, Usha has also clerked for US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
