U.S. Bancorp President Gunjan Kedia Named Bank’s First Female CEO

U.S. Bancorp has announced the appointment of Gunjan Kedia as its new chief executive officer, effective April 15. Kedia, who has served as president of the bank, makes history as the first woman to hold the CEO role at U.S. Bancorp. She succeeds Andy Cecere, who led the company as CEO since 2017 and chairman since 2018. At 54, the Indian American industry veteran joins a select group of women leading major financial institutions.

In her statement, Kedia called U.S. Bancorp “a truly special place” that empowers employees to do meaningful work and build lasting relationships with clients during pivotal moments in their lives and businesses. She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I am deeply honored to be trusted to lead this iconic company,” and emphasized her commitment to continuing the bank’s strong legacy of integrity and responsible business practices to drive growth. “These values will continue to guide us toward an ambitious future – one we will build together,” she said.

Kedia joined U.S. Bancorp in 2016 and has been an influential leader, most recently overseeing revenue lines as president. With nearly three decades of experience in financial services, she has held leadership roles at State Street Financial, BNY Mellon, McKinsey & Company, and PwC.

A prominent figure in finance, Kedia has been named to the American Banker’s Most Powerful Women in Banking and Finance list seven times and has appeared twice on Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance list.

Kedia holds an MBA with distinction from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, also with distinction, from the Delhi School of Engineering. She currently serves on the boards of PBS, the American Red Cross, and Carnegie Mellon’s Business School.
