Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially expanded its AWS Marketplace to India, marking a major milestone for the country’s growing cloud ecosystem. With this rollout, customers in India can now purchase cloud-based software and services directly in Indian Rupees (INR).
The expansion enables India-based sellers — including Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Consulting Partners — to list and sell their products locally. This move simplifies tax compliance, enhances enterprise access, and fosters the development of a more robust domestic cloud software marketplace.
Empowering Indian Sellers and Enterprises
Through the new localized setup, major Indian software providers such as Cisco, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, eMudhra, Freshworks, Sarvam, Salesforce, and IBM can now conduct direct transactions in rupees. This eliminates the complexities of foreign currency exchange and creates a seamless buying and selling experience for both customers and vendors.
Globally, the AWS Marketplace offers over 30,000 listings across more than 70 categories, including Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), DevOps, and Data Analytics. By expanding to India, AWS aims to replicate its global success and drive innovation across industries by offering faster, easier, and more cost-effective access to advanced digital solutions.
Driving Efficiency and Growth
According to AWS, the Marketplace delivers a 377% return on investment (ROI) by accelerating procurement cycles, reducing costs, and improving operational agility. The new India-specific rollout is expected to deliver similar benefits for Indian enterprises by streamlining the software procurement process and fostering stronger collaboration between technology providers and customers.
Ms. Ruba Borno, Vice President of Global Specialists & Partners at AWS, highlighted that the Marketplace will “remove procurement friction through local currency transactions and simplified tax compliance,” giving Indian customers faster and more efficient access to cutting-edge technologies.
Adoption by Leading Indian Enterprises
Leading Indian organizations such as Observe.AI, Swiggy, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) already leverage AWS Marketplace to simplify procurement and accelerate innovation. With the new local currency feature, more businesses — from startups to large enterprises — are expected to adopt the platform for their digital transformation journeys.
Boosting India’s Cloud Ecosystem
The launch of AWS Marketplace in India represents a significant step toward strengthening the nation’s position as a global technology hub. By providing an integrated, rupee-based platform for software procurement, AWS is not only empowering Indian technology sellers but also supporting the government’s broader Digital India vision.
This move is expected to stimulate competition, encourage innovation, and provide enterprises with the flexibility to choose from a wide range of cloud-based tools and services. For Indian software developers and service providers, it opens up new revenue streams and simplifies the path to scaling their businesses domestically and globally.
