Bihari Wedding

Bihari weddings are known for their traditional customs and rich cultural heritage. The main features of a traditional Bihari wedding ceremony are: Loka: An engagement ceremony where the bride and groom’s families exchange rings and formally sign the marriage contract.

Ganesh Puja: This is a pre-wedding ritual that worships Lord Ganesh  as the bringer of good luck and prosperity and is made with  turmeric, sandalwood, etc. to shine on the wedding day. Note: This is the moment when the bride’s father shakes hands with the groom, symbolizing the transfer of  the bride’s responsibilities from her father to her husband and  her  new life with her husband. Become a groom and take the  first step as a married couple.

Bihari weddings are known for their elegant and traditional attire. The bride wears an intricately embroidered red or yellow sari and the groom wears a sherwani or dhoti kurta. The ceremony is usually performed in a temple or mandap (wedding canopy). With an emphasis on simplicity, hospitality and community, it incorporates many customs to bring the bride and groom’s families together.
