Cheti Chand

Cheti Chand is a New Year celebration in the Sindhi community of India. It is celebrated on his second day in the month of Chaitra (usually his March or April) according to the Hindu calendar. The festival celebrates the birthday of Ishtadeva Udeloral, also known as Jhulelal, the patron saint of the Sindhi community.
In Cheti Chand, the Sindhi community worships Puja at a temple dedicated to Jhulelal. They also decorate their homes with floral and rangoli patterns and prepare special traditional dishes such as ‘dalpakwang’ and ‘saibaji’ for the occasion. The festival also includes a procession of Jhulelal idols being carried out in boats or palanquins to the nearby sea to join the storm surge.
