I have a strong foundation in the Vishnupur gharana of North Indian classical music, and I’m well-versed in the Brahmasangeet tradition of Rabindranath Tagore’s compositions. My training includes studies at Geetabithi Academy of Music in Kolkata from 1973-1981 and further training in the US with renowned musicians like Nazir Ali Jairazbhoy and Prabha Atre. In my classes, students learn the fundamentals of raga and tala, which are essential elements of Indian classical music, and apply them to songs in various Indian languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Bengali. While I primarily focus on vocal training, I also welcome students with expertise in acoustic instruments like the flute, guitar, violin, sitar, and veena, as they enhance the ensemble’s sound and expression.
