The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which Srila Prabhupada established to spread the message of Lord Krishna, has beautiful temples worldwide. These temples are the centres of devotion and spirituality. The ISKCON temple in Bangalore is considered one of the largest Krishna temples in the world and is a beautiful place to visit in Bangalore. The main ISKCON temple complex stands on a small hillock appropriately named Hare Krishna Hill.
Within the temple complex, there are six shrines that are dedicated to Sri Sri Radha Krishnachandra, Sri Srinivasa Govinda, Sri Prahlada Narasimha, Sri Hanuman and Sri Garuda, Sri Nitai Gauranga, and Sri Sri Krishna Balarama. The rituals of the temple start early in the morning with the waking of the deity known as Jagran Seva and Mangalarti. After this the deities are worshipped in 16 different prescribed ways known as Shodashopchara, this is done behind closed doors within the sanctum sanctorum. This is then followed by ritual offering of food or Naivedyam to the deities, arati, and archana. The rituals culminate with a palanquin procession of the deities within the temple complex followed by the Shayana Seva.
The celebration of various festivals is the time when the temple erupts in waves of frenzied devotion and presents a grand spectacle. The main festival celebrated here is Sri Krishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. The other festivals that are celebrated with great pomp and gaiety include Balarama Purnima, Sri Radhashtami, Vyasa Puja, Vamana Jayanthi, Garuda Panchami, Jhulan Utsava, Deepotsava, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, and Brahmotsava. The ambitious Krishna Lila Theme Park is coming up on Vaikuntha Hill in Bangalore. Once completed the Theme Park will bring to vibrant life Lord Krishna and his leelas during his avatar on earth. The theme park is going to be a fusion of state-of-the-art technology, design, and spirituality. It is envisaged as a prominent tourism destination in the city of Bangalore. Shrines to the deities Rajadhiraja Govinda, Lord Jagannatha, Sri Radhakrishnachandra, and Sudarshana Narasimha, will be prominent features of the Krishna Lila Theme Park.
