Omsk State Medical University is one of the oldest universities in Siberia, and considers 1920 to be its foundation date. By the decision of the Siberian Revolutionary Committee’s Orgburo on November 8, 1920, a medical department was organized at the Siberian Veterinary and Zootechnical Institute in Omsk, where 186 students were accepted. In 1921, the West Siberian State Institute was created, with N.K. Ivanov-Emin as its first rector. In 1924, the university was renamed the Omsk State Medical Institute.
