The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine—a unique partnership between a public research university (Virginia Tech) and a private health care provider (Carilion Clinic)—is a fully accredited, four-year medical school. The school is among the first of the new generation of medical schools in the United States. While the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine opened as a private school in 2010, the school became part of Virginia Tech as its ninth college on July 1, 2018.
