Kannada Sangha Ottawa was started in 1978 to celebrate the first Ugadi. Their main vision was to promote and celebrate the Kannada heritage in Ottawa. The entertainment was started by Gita Krishnamurthy. As the years followed, the membership grew gradually to offically form the Kannada Sangha of Ottawa as we know today. KSO has hosted several events trying to spread the word and heritage of Karnataka. In 1990, KSO hosted the international Kannada Conference attracting more than 1000 members.
