Diwali Stamps are now Available from Canada Post

This is the fifth year that Canada Post has issued a commemorative stamp in honor of Diwali. The stamp, designed by Kristine Do and illustrated by Rena Chen, was previously issued in 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2022. It attempts to capture the spirit of Diwali. The stamp, which features marigold flowers and mango-tree leaves, is embellished with small clay oil lamps or diyas at its corners, which are inspired by the traditional toranas that adorn the entrances and facades of homes and temples during Diwali.

NEW DELHI: For the fifth year in a row, Canada Post has issued a commemorative stamp commemorating Diwali.

Previously, similar stamps were issued in 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The stamp, designed by Kristine Do and illustrated by Rena Chen, attempts to capture the essence of Diwali through its depiction of marigold flowers and mango-tree leaves. Small clay oil lamps, or diyas, adorn the corners of the stamp, inspired by the traditional garlands, or toranas, that adorn the entrances and facades of homes and temples during Diwali.

The Diwali stamp is available in a special set of six for CA$ 5.52, or about 340.

Earlier in the day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended Diwali celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Chandrasekhar Arya, an Indo-Canadian parliamentarian, led the event.

The Diwali celebration on Parliament Hill took place amid tense diplomatic relations between Canada and India, which were heightened in September when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that Indian agents were involved in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, Canada.
