Long before she quit the party in 2011, the former congresswoman from Hawaii began criticising Democrats, especially President Biden.
Elon Musk has agreed to let former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a 2020 Democratic presidential contender and the first Hindu American in Congress, host a show on X. Jim Rome, a sports radio analyst, and Don Lemon, a former CNN anchor, co-host their shows on the social media network.
Broader content and a number of documentary-style videos will be featured on Gabbard’s upcoming show. “A series of short films that share the stories of those most impacted, but whose voices are silenced, and stories and news about the truth of what is happening in our country and around the world that those in power do not want you to hear,” she wrote in a post on X.
As the social media site “seeks to draw more eyeballs and move attention away from controversies over owner Musk’s own posts,” the Wall Street Journal reports that the move has been made. Since Musk took over, the company “has been trying to get more into video and long-form content,” according to The Journal. One such move was to allow Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host, to post videos on X after he left the network. Carlson recently announced the launch of his own streaming service, but he also promised to keep giving away free content on X.
In the 2020 Democratic primary, Gabbard, a member of the House from 2013 until the end of the year, ran a losing White House campaign. She has a substantial following among Hindu Americans and is rumoured to be closely associated with Prime Minister Modi. The Hindu American Foundation is one of the many Hindu organisations that strongly support Gabbard.
In 2021, she announced her resignation from the Democratic Party, citing the party as being “completely controlled by an elitist cabal of warmongers who are motivated by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by stoking anti-White racism and racializing every issue.”
Since then, she launched a brief podcast last year and, in 2022, agreed to become a contributor for Fox News, where she will appear on a number of programmes. She had been a regular on Fox News, criticising Democrats long before she left the network, though, even before this deal. She has been critical of Democrats, including President Biden, on several occasions. As reported by Reuters, she had previously referred to Hillary Clinton as the “personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, and the embodiment of corruption.” She supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential party candidature against Hillary Clinton and entered a brief presidential run of her own in 2020 before withdrawing and supporting Joe Biden.
Her memoir, “For Love of Country: Why I Left the Democratic Party,” was published in October of last year. “Those who love America must defend our rights from those who seek to undermine them at every turn,” she writes in the book. It’s time to say goodbye to the Democratic Party.”
