Description
The 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee marks the 100th anniversary of this prestigious competition, first held in 1925. The event will take place from May 27 to May 29 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. A total of 243 spellers, aged 8 to 14, from across the United States and countries including Canada, Germany, Nigeria, Ghana, Kuwait, and the Bahamas, will compete for the championship title.
Competition Schedule (All times Eastern):
Preliminaries: Tuesday, May 27, 8:00 AM – 4:40 PM
Quarterfinals: Wednesday, May 28, 8:00 AM – 12:45 PM
Semifinals: Wednesday, May 28, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Finals: Thursday, May 29, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
The semifinals and finals will be broadcast live on ION and other Scripps-owned networks, including Bounce, Grit, ION Mystery, and Laff, as well as on free streaming platforms like ION Plus and Scripps News.
This year’s Bee also features a museum-quality exhibit at the Gaylord, showcasing historical memorabilia and milestones from the competition’s century-long history.
