Glazed Ham Recipe

Ingredients:
For the Ham:
- 1 bone-in ham (6-8 pounds)
- Whole cloves (optional)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup pineapple juice (or orange juice)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
2. Prepare the Ham:
- If the ham has a skin, remove it by gently running a knife along the skin’s edge and then peeling it away. You can leave some fat for flavor.
- If you want to add a decorative touch, score the ham by making diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart in a crisscross pattern. Insert whole cloves at the intersections if desired.
3. Place the Ham in the Roasting Pan:
- Place the ham in a large roasting pan with the cut side down.
4. Prepare the Glaze:
- In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, pineapple juice (or orange juice), ground cloves, and ground cinnamon. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has dissolved.
5. Glaze the Ham:
- Pour about half of the glaze over the ham. Use a brush or a spoon to evenly coat the ham with the glaze.
6. Bake the Ham:
- Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil to prevent the ham from drying out. Place the ham in the preheated oven.
7. Basting:
- Bake the ham for about 15-20 minutes per pound, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C). Baste the ham with the remaining glaze every 30 minutes during the cooking process.
8. Final Glazing:
- In the last 15-20 minutes of cooking, remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 350°F (177°C). This will allow the ham to caramelize and develop a beautiful glaze. Continue to baste occasionally.
9. Check the Temperature:
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham has reached an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C). If not, continue baking until it reaches the desired temperature.
10. Rest and Serve: – Once the ham is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute and ensures a juicy, flavorful ham.
11. Carve and Enjoy: – Carve the ham into slices and serve. You can drizzle any remaining glaze over the slices for extra flavor.
