India and Mongolia have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their Strategic Partnership, as senior officials from both countries conducted a comprehensive review of their bilateral relationship. They discussed cooperation across key sectors and outlined plans for high-level engagements to celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar held a consultative meeting with Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to assess and strengthen their cooperation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported.
On March 19, both sides explored ways to bolster the India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership and ensure ongoing high-level engagements. They reviewed progress in various sectors, including development partnerships, education, IT, energy, connectivity, culture, capacity building, mining, defence, and security.
In a post on X, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared: “Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar held a Consultative Meeting with Mr. Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, State Secretary, MoFA of Mongolia. Both sides carried out a comprehensive review of the bilateral relationship, agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, and organize a series of commemorative activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.”
The two countries also agreed to conduct a series of events marking 70 years of diplomatic relations. Additionally, they decided to elevate the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) to the Secretary level, according to the MEA.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
India and Mongolia have enjoyed a historical relationship spanning 2,000 years. Since Mongolia’s emergence as a modern nation-state in the 20th century, the two nations have continued to build their ties based on shared historical and cultural legacies. In 2015, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, the two countries officially declared a strategic partnership, as stated by the MEA.
Diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia were established on December 24, 1955, with India being the first country outside the Socialist bloc to do so. India has been a strong supporter of Mongolia’s UN and NAM memberships. The year 2015 also marked the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
