- Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has named Dr. Ravi Kalhan, the Louis A. Simpson Professor of Pulmonary Medicine and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, as its new associate dean for Faculty Affairs.
- According to a Northwestern press release, he will “support and enhance faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, and career development at Feinberg” in this recently appointed administrative faculty role. He will support faculty development programs to improve clinical, teaching, and leadership skills in addition to acting as a resource for departments and faculty seeking advice on academic and professional matters, according to the press release.
- “I have benefited from our rich environment for growth as a faculty member having spent my entire career at Feinberg,” Kalhan said in a statement. He went on, “I am thrilled to work with Dr. Sorond and the Faculty Affairs team to foster an academic community that enables every faculty member to reach their full potential in clinical innovation, medical education, and scientific discovery.”
- In addition, Kalhan co-directs the Center for Education and Career Development at the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute and serves as a professor of preventive medicine in the Division of Epidemiology. - In Cleveland, Ohio, Kalhan was born and reared. Santosh B. Kalhan, a pediatric anesthesiologist who worked at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, is his mother, and Satish C. Kalhan, a physician-scientist, spent his entire career at Case Western Reserve University.
- Kalhan received his Master of Science from Feinberg and his MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He finished his internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Northwestern University’s McGaw Medical Center. Dr. Susan Tsai, a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University, is his spouse.
