NRI Malayalee Cultural Associations in the US are groups that bring together people of Malayalee origin who are residing in the US. Malayalees from Kerala, India began settling down in Louisville in 1961. By 1970, the group consisted of about 10 families, half of them in the medical field. The slow increase in Malayali population got big boosts in 1990’s with the arrival of computer professionals and then by families in the medical field in the millennium. The latter group’s arrival not only compensated for the loss of a few people in the computer field and a few families who left to settle down in Kerala, but also increased the Malayali population to an all time high of 150 families.
