The K-1 fiancé(e) visa is a non-immigrant visa for individuals who are engaged to be married to a U.S. citizen and wish to enter the United States to complete the marriage. The K-1 visa allows the fiancé(e) to travel to the United States and then get married within 90 days of arrival.

To be eligible for a K-1 visa, the U.S. citizen must have met their fiancé(e) in person within the past two years, and the couple must have a bona fide intention to get married. The U.S. citizen must also file a petition with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and show that they are able to support their fiancé(e) financially.

Once the marriage takes place, the K-1 visa holder can apply for adjustment of status to become a lawful permanent resident (green card holder). It’s important to note that the K-1 visa is a one-time use visa and cannot be renewed. The K-1 visa holder must apply for adjustment of status within 90 days of arrival in the United States, or they will be required to leave the country.
