Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) is a special category of Indian diaspora recognized by the Indian government. The OCI card provides several benefits to its holders, including lifetime visa-free travel to India, the right to work and study in India, and the right to participate in business and cultural activities in India.

OCIs are considered to be of Indian origin, but they are not considered to be Indian citizens and do not have all the rights and privileges as Indian citizens. For example, OCIs cannot vote in Indian elections, hold public office, or purchase agricultural land or plantation property in India.

OCIs are required to comply with the laws and regulations of both India and the country where they reside, and they have several financial, legal, and taxation implications, such as the requirement to pay taxes in both India and the country where they reside and the need to comply with exchange control regulations in India.

It’s important for OCIs to stay updated on the laws and regulations that apply to them, as these may change over time, and to seek legal and financial advice as needed.
