Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017

  • From 7 to 9 January, 2017; The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 Convention was held in Bengaluru in partnership with Karnataka.
  • The theme of this year is “Redefining Engagement with the Indian Diaspora.”
  • The Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Karnataka government are working together to put it on.
  • About 8,000 delegates from 30 nations participated in PBD 2017.
  • Dr. Antonio Costa, Portugal’s prime minister, attended the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in 2017 as its chief guest.
  • Michael Ashwin Adhin, the vice president of Suriname, participated as a special guest.
  • The Youth PBD-2017 was observed on January 7, the first day of the convention.
  • Role of Diaspora Youth in the Transformation of India is the theme of the opening session.
  • 160 young people of Indian descent visited as part of four of our “Know India” programs, 250 graduate and postgraduate students from the National Service Scheme, and 200 students from Bengaluru College participated in the Youth PBD.
  • The PBD Convention was launched by the Honorable Prime Minister on January 8.
  • On this occasion, Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY) was also introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • A skill-development program is being offered to Indian youth looking for work abroad in an effort to turn India into the world’s skill capital.
  • Thirty NRIs and organizations received the “Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award – 2017” from President Pranab Mukherjee on January 9.
  • PBD is commemorated annually on January 9 to mark the date that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India as a Pravasi from South Africa on that same day in 1915.
  • The Day was started in 2003.
