Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2009

  • The 7th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, India in partnership with the State Government of Tamil Nadu and the Confederation of Indian Industry, from 7th-9th January 2009 at Chennai.  
  • The first Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held in New Delhi in 2003.
  • The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conventions have been held annually since 2003, and the PBSA is the highest honor given to Indians living abroad.
  • It is given to non-resident Indians (NRIs), people of Indian origin (PIOs), or organizations or institutions founded and managed by NRIs or PIOs in honor of their exceptional accomplishments both domestically and internationally. 
  • A gold medallion, a citation, a small version of the medallion in the form of a lapel pin, and a bilingual Sanad (certificate) are all included in the award.
