Prayer After Waking up
Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi is a prayer said at the beginning of the day when one wakes up. This morning prayer is also called “karadarshana”. “Kara” means the palm of the hand. For this mantra, as soon as you wake up from sleep, focus on the palms of your hands. Visualize and invoke the supreme power in the form of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Durga.

Meaning: On the tip of the hand (fingers) resides Goddess Lakshmi, and At the center of the hand (palm) resides Goddess Saraswati At the base (wrist) of the hand sits Goddess Gowri, It is auspicious to look at the hands at the beginning of the day. |
Significance: These deities represent three very important Shaktis or powers (resources). Devi Durga represents our health. Devi Lakshmi represents wealth and good values. Devi Saraswati represents “wisdom” or “knowledge”. These three basic resources are required by every one of us: health, wealth, and knowledge. When we have them, we don’t know their value and take them for granted. Only when we are deprived of any one of them, we discover the value of that particular resource. When we are sick, we think that health is the most important. In poverty, we feel that wealth is the most important. Thus, health, wealth, and knowledge are all necessary for survival, for success in our ventures, and life itself. Hence our Sastraas recommend that we remember these three resources every day as soon as we wake up in the morning. |
