Ram Pran Pratishtha ceremony: Echo of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ reaches New York’s Times Square

The Indian diaspora celebrated the opening of the temple with a dance performance and the waving of saffron flags in Times Square.

On Monday, hundreds of Indians flocked to Times Square in New York City to commemorate Lord Ram’s consecration in the opulent Ayodhya temple. To commemorate the opening of the Ram Temple, chants of “Jai Shree Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” resounded throughout the Big Apple.

Over the past thirty years, Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati, a graduate of Stanford University, has led the community in Rishikesh. Saffron flags were waved by the Indian diaspora in Times Square, and a dance performance heightened the festivities.

“We have opened a Rashtra temple in addition to a Ram temple back home today. It will serve as a unifying temple. Speaking to the assembly, Sadhvi Saraswati remarked, “This is the temple for which we have waited for over 500 years.”

In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the idol of Ram Lalla and dedicated the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. On the Ram Temple grounds, he also showered flowers on the statue of Jatayu and prayed to Lord Shiva at Ayodhya Dham. During the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony, pictures of army helicopters dropping petals on the temple surfaced.

Today is not only a day for celebration for all of us, but it also signifies the development of Indian society. This event is about humility as much as it is about victory. The world is replete with instances of countries that faced a lot of difficulties resolving historic wrongs and injustices,” PM Modi said while addressing the dignitaries invited to the Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
