Let’s know about some of the Hindustan classical musical instruments which grabbed attention worldwide.

The sitar belonged to a stringed instrument that is popular in northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The word sitar is derived from the Persian word star, which stands for three-stringed. It flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries Today, it is a prominent instrument in Hindustani music, played in northern Indian Kathak ( dance-drama).

Today, however, the instrument can have 18,19,20, and 21 strings. Despite there being up to 21 strings, the sitar player only plays one set of strings. It’s significantly more difficult to play than a guitar. And it is one of the most expensive musical instruments in India.

Sitar has got a unique sound and is difficult to make and play. As said, it’s very challenging to play, the sitar has got millions of active learners across the globe.

Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Annapurna Devi, Anushka Shankar.. the list is long.

Ustad Shahid Parvez khan, Ustad Bade Gulam Ali khan, and mustard Abdul Jaffer Khan are legacy sitar players.
