It has fewer calories than sugar and a low glycemic index, so it does not  spike  blood sugar levels.People with diabetes can use sugar substitutes to control blood sugar levels and reduce  calorie intake.However, some sugar substitutes can slightly increase  blood sugar levels and cause other side effects.
