Tony Shaloub’s Drama ‘Monk’ Being Remade for Indian Audience

No cast members have been announced yet, but those involved in the production assert that this adaptation offers a uniquely fresh perspective, especially for viewers familiar with the original.
The Indian remake of the U.S. drama “Monk” is currently in production, as reported by Deadline, and will be available for streaming on Disney+, Hotstar and Hulu. The project is being developed by Banijay Asia in partnership with NBCUniversal Formats.
This adaptation marks the first time the series, which centers around a detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder, has been reimagined in South Asia, although a Turkish version of “Monk” has been produced before.
The original series aired on USA Network from 2002 to 2009, and it even led to a movie that premiered on Peacock last year, according to Deadline. It followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) along with his assistants Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) as they tackled unconventional cases with the San Francisco Police Department.
In a statement, Sumanta Bose, Business Head HSM and Content Head for Disney+ Hotstar (Hindi), expressed that “Monk” is an “exciting fit for our platform, combining humor, mystery, and emotional depth.” He emphasized that they have worked to make this adaptation feel authentic and Indian, making it “uniquely fresh for our audience, including those who may have watched the original.”
