TG20 League 2026: Telangana’s Cricket Revolution Has Begun

Telangana is writing a brand new chapter in Indian domestic cricket. The TG20 League — Telangana’s first-ever franchise-based T20 tournament — is finally here, and it’s making waves from the very first ball.

What Is the TG20 League?

TG20 is a franchise-based T20 league established by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to create a high-performance platform for emerging cricket talent across Telangana. The league received BCCI approval on May 6, 2026, with V. Agam Rao serving as Chairman of the Governing Council, Prasanna Kannan (former TNPL CEO) as Executive Head, and Ambati Rayudu heading the Cricket Operations Committee.

Format & Schedule

The HCA TG20 League 2026 officially launches on June 20 and runs through July 11, featuring eight city franchises and 32 matches across 21 days. The format follows a round-robin league stage, with playoffs determining the inaugural champion, and the Grand Final set for July 11, 2026, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal — home of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

The Star-Studded Auction

One of the most exciting moments of the TG20 season so far was undoubtedly the player auction. The June 7, 2026 player auction at the Princess Convention Centre, Ramoji Film City, became the biggest event in Telangana domestic cricket history — 160 players were bought from a pool of over 1,300 HCA-registered cricketers, with a salary cap of ₹60 lakh per team.

India T20 vice-captain Tilak Varma was signed by Medak Falcons as an Icon player for ₹33 lakh — the most expensive pick at the auction — while Mohammed Siraj joined Warangal Warriors for ₹14 lakh. Other marquee names include Rohit Rayudu at Palamuru Strikers and Rahul Buddhi headlining Nalgonda Knights.

A League Built for Local Talent

What sets TG20 apart from other franchise leagues is its commitment to developing grassroots cricket. Every franchise is required to include at least four district cricketers in their squad, with a minimum of two district players in the Playing XI — a rule that puts local talent front and centre, not just as filler, but as a genuine part of the competitive mix.

The league aims to boost grassroots cricket and create pathways to elite tournaments like the IPL.

Where to Watch

All 32 TG20 League 2026 matches are broadcast live on Star Sports Telugu and streamed on JioHotstar across app, web, and connected TV.

The Bigger Picture

The league is designed to mirror top-tier professional leagues, offering a high-intensity competitive environment that significantly enhances player exposure and accelerates development. With Sreenidhi University on board as title sponsor and overwhelming franchise interest from corporates across the state, TG20 is not just a cricket tournament — it’s a movement.

Telangana’s cricketing future looks very bright indeed. 🏏
