Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm across India. It marks the triumph of good over evil and symbolizes the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, as recounted in the epic Ramayana. On this day, effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna, and son Meghnad are burnt in grand processions, signifying the destruction of evil forces. People also worship Goddess Durga, who fought a fierce battle against the demon Mahishasura. Dussehra is a time for cultural performances, feasting, and joyous gatherings, strengthening the sense of unity and righteousness in society, while also reminding us of the eternal battle between virtue and vice.
