There are several sacred festivals celebrated in India, but Mahashivratri ranks among the biggest and most important. Shiva has considered the First Guru of Adi Guru from whom the Yogic tradition originated, and the festival celebrates his grace. There is a powerful natural upsurge of energy in the human system on this night, which is the darkest night of the year. Maintaining a vertical posture throughout the night is extremely beneficial to one’s physical and spiritual well-being.
